Hospital Opportunity Program (HOPS)
The Hospital Opportunity Program for Students (HOPS) provides an opportunity for Secondary V students to observe and assist medical personnel in a large hospital setting (i.e. Jewish General Hospital) in order to explore a career in medicine. A highly valued program from the perspective of the students, HOPS has been developed in partnership with the Auxiliary of the Jewish General Hospital, resulting in a team of volunteers as well as dedicated medical personnel in serving the career decision-making needs of students.

For whom is the Program designed?
Students interested in this program must be in Secondary V and be prepared to make a commitment to participate in the entire program. This includes completing all necessary documentation, attending all the rotations and the evening lectures organized by the HOPS Committee.
How do I apply?
Your guidance counsellor has a supply of application forms. Read the information carefully and return the application form to your guidance counsellor. If your school submits your name for consideration, you will be contacted for an interview with the HOPS committee. If successful, you will receive an acceptance letter indicating when you must report to the hospital for an orientation meeting.
Important!
Before you participate in the Hospital Opportunity Program for Students, you will have to obtain the consent of your parents. In addition, you will have to inform your teachers and mutually agree upon how you will make up for any missed tests or assignments.
For more information, please contact Catia Ambrosi at 514-483-7200 extension 7479 or via email at cambrosi@emsb.qc.ca.
Please note
- The main objective of the program is to sensitize students to the “general” functioning of a hospital through an observational and, on occasion, a participatory format.
- Due to the limited number of spaces available within each department, it is not possible to permit each student to select departments of his/her choice.
- The Auxiliary will assign each student to different departments during the course of the program.
- The student will attend 10 rotations and 4 evening lectures held at the Jewish General Hospital.
- Upon successful completion of the program, each participant will receive a certificate.
