Registrations for the 2024-2025 school year
The EMSB is presently accepting registrations for the upcoming school year. All registrations are by appointment only. Walk-ins are not accepted. Visitors must use the main entrance of the building when they come to their appointment at the Central Office.
If you live outside of EMSB territory (i.e.: North Shore, South Shore, West Island, Lasalle, Verdun, Lachine, Châteauguay), you must contact the School Board of your territory to apply for a Certificate of English Eligibility.

Please take note of the following:
- You will only be allowed to enter the building if you have booked an appointment
- Only one person will be admitted in the building (other members of the family or friends will be asked to wait outside the building)
- You must bring all original documents (photocopies or electronic documents will not be accepted)
- If you are missing a document, you will be asked to leave and to book a new appointment
For Canadian residents:

Parent’s original birth certificate OR valid passport OR Canadian Citizenship
- If parent was educated in Canada (outside of Quebec), an official original document indicating a proof of English education in another province
- Minimum 5 years elementary report cards from Grade 1-6

- Letter from Archives confirming their attendance at another English school board OR
- Form 3A provided by the school board – Elementary marks sealed by school board
- Child’s original long form birth certificate, showing parents’ names
- Child’s most recent original report card, and its certified translation in English or French
For parents working or studying in Quebec temporarily:

- Parent’s Study Permit OR Work Permit
- If the parent is here on a Study Permit, parent’s Certificate of Acceptance in Quebec (CAQ)
- For Open Work Permits, you must bring your signed employment contract
- Child’s original long form birth certificate, showing parents’ names, and its certified translation in French or English
- Child’s Immigration papers (Canadian visa, visitor record, refugee status, etc.)
- Child’s most recent original report card, and its certified translation in English or French
For parents with a Diplomatic status:

- Parent’s letter of Protocol and letter of attestation for child from Protocol Quebec
- Child’s original long form birth certificate, showing parents’ names, and its certified translation in French or English
- Child’s most recent original report card, and its certified translation in English or French
For Children with Intellectual or Physical Disabilities or Severe Social or Emotional Difficulties
A student may be exempt from compulsory French language instruction because they have been identified as having specific learning disabilities and/or severe emotional/social problems and/or intellectual physical sensorial handicaps.

Before coming to your appointment, please make sure to bring with you the following documents (photocopies or electronic documents will not be accepted)
- Psychological evaluation of your child and all pertinent reports.
- Report cards from the last two years of school
- Individualized Education Plan (IEP) from the child's school.
- The child's original long form birth certificate, showing both parents' names.
- If the child was born outside of Canada, provide the child's Canadian Citizenship document, or Citizenship card or Permanent Resident card or proof of refugee status.
After the parent applies for the exemption (Form K) at the Law 101 office, the Student Services Department will process the request.
For students who already have a certificate of English eligibility and would like to transfer school
- Please contact the chosen school to book an appointment
- Parent’s original birth certificate OR valid passport OR Canadian Citizenship
- Child’s original long form birth certificate, showing parents’ names
- Child’s original Certificate of Eligibility
- Child’s most recent original report card, and its certified translation in English or French
