EMSB sends hope and prayers to high school teacher injured in stabbing

The English Montreal School Board is sending its hopes and prayers to a teacher at John F. Kennedy High School in St. Michel, who was the unfortunate victim of a violent incident in class.

A student entered the teacher’s class as students were being dismissed and stabbed him. The teacher was rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has undergone surgery.

“The suspect has been apprehended and this is now part of a police investigation,” stated EMSB Director General Nick Katalifos. “We are all praying for our teacher’s complete recovery.”

EMSB Chair Joe Ortona extended thanks to Urgences Santé, the Montreal Police Department and the school administration and staff for their quick action. “Our Traumatic Support team was immediately assigned by the Director General to go to the school and talk to students and staff about this incident,” he said. “This is a team of experienced individuals from our Student Services Department with many years of expertise in dealing immediately with traumatic events.”

Given the circumstances the school will be closed on Friday. Since Monday was already designated as a professional day, classes will not resume until Tuesday.
