EMSB makes public presentation of Commitment-to-Success Plan

On January 26,  the English Montreal School Board made a virtual public presentation of its Commitment-to-Success Plan.

As of June 2020, the seven-year graduation and qualification success rate for the 2013 cohort is at 90.3 percent, a slight decrease of about 2 percent from the previous year. The six-year graduation rate is at 89.6 percent, positioning the Board to surpass its 2021 results. The Board has achieved its target.

At the time of writing, the only data that has been released about success rates provides information on the gap between male and female students, reduced from 4.2 percent in 2019 to 3.2 percent. Although the Board has surpassed achieving this target, it is worth noting that the success rate for males and for females decreased by about 2 percent

Due to the global pandemic of COVID-19, all uniform exams were cancelled in June 2021. As such, subject specific results for courses contributing to graduation are not available.

Overall, the results are favourable, considering that students followed a variety of models of instruction during the pandemic. In March 2020, instruction was pivoted online, directly affecting the students represented in this year’s results. While unprecedented, the development of various models to deliver our instruction both virtually and in-person brought out the spirit of true collaboration between students, teachers and parents.  

The Facility Condition Index (FCI) is a ration that indicates the five-year maintenance costs for buildings compared to replacement costs. The Board’s FCI remained stable at 27.15 in 2020. The ratio has been impacted by the migration of data from Simacs asset management software to Maximo. This transition enables the Ministry of Education   and the Board to comply with the school infrastructure management framework, as well as standardizing inspections and asset management across the province.

The Board continues to pursue its five-year plan towards improving the mental health and well-being of employees. In the 2020-2021 academic year, the Board continued its focus on the identified areas of improvement by providing resources to employees to improve their mental health and overall wellness. This included the regular promotion of  the Board’s Employee Family Assistance Program. The mental health tips provided by the this program via various apps and their website, as well as new and important webinars and training programs, gave a boost to all employees. New tools and materials are being made available during the 2021-2022 academic year in order to provide assistance to employees and their families.  This information will continue to be available in virtual format only, in light of the pandemic.

Finally, with respect to the goal of adding the 60 minute initiative for physical activity at the elementary level, the Board has added seven new schools and is on track to reaching its target by 2022.
