EMSB B.A.S.E. Daycare launches digital learning Initiative

Montreal - Tuesday, April 7, 2020

In an effort to provide children with engaging activities that they can do at home, in green spaces or in their communities, the English Montreal School Board’s Before and After School Enriched (B.A.S.E.) Daycare Program has launched its digital learning initiative called B.A.S.E. at Home.

Using social media platforms alongside online resources and its blog (daycare-matters.com), B.A.S.E at Home aims to bring engaging activities and information to students and parents in a digital format. Content will include instructional videos, photos and other interactive resources.

Programming has been broken down into five themes for each week. Regular “brain breaks” will also be included that will provide tips about mindfulness and ways to keep your body moving.

Here is the program as explained by B.A.S.E. Daycare Manager Teresa Federico:

Making Monday

The week will begin with recipes, videos and resources that you can use to make natural body care products and delicious snacks and meals in your own kitchen.

Steamy Tuesday

This is an exciting opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics through activities and videos of experiments that can be done at home with simple and recyclable materials.

Wild Card Wednesday

This “wild card” day will be a mixture of all sorts of different activities, day-in-a-life videos, scavenger hunts you can do in your neighbourhood and more!

Greening Thursday

Participants will experiment with growing different types of plants using various systems, learn about environmental issues and things you can do at home to help the environment.

Artful Friday

The week wraps up with arts and crafts you can do at home, along with facts and stories about artists to inspire you!

You can follow B.A.S.E. @EMSBBASE on Instagram, TikTok and Twitter.  All of the   weekly B.A.S.E. at Home content is available on the EMSB website

“We are excited to offer this exciting new opportunity to children and parents alike,” says Ms. Federico
