Resource Support Program
Instructional practices which are directed at the unique needs of struggling students will enhance motivation and learning. The primary goal of the Resource Program is to help children associate pleasure with literacy events and to maintain a lasting interest beyond the instructional program. Every child is capable of achieving success. The more active a role students assume, the more powerful the learning. The resource teacher focuses on enhancing the child's self-esteem, intrinsic motivation and academic success simultaneously.
The resource model emphasizes four principles for effective literacy learning:
- Maximize instructional time in small group instruction
- Provide frequent , early intervention and/or support for older students
- Teach less, more thoughly using a variety of teaching strategies
- Provide clear and meaningful instruction through child-centred activities
